Brandywine School District
Brandywine School District advances students to middle school in sixth grade and high school in ninth. Under Delaware School Choice guidelines, transitioning to a non-feeder middle or high school requires submitting a new choice application, including for students already enrolled under School Choice.
Gifted and talented education operates through dedicated regional centers: Mount Pleasant Elementary for grades K–3, Claymont Elementary for grades 4–5, and P.S. duPont Middle for grades 6–8. Admission to these gifted programs requires formal district qualification rather than general school choice. Once identified, continuing gifted students transfer between levels using the district transition form without needing a new Choice lottery application, and the district provides dedicated transportation for qualifying residents.
The district's International Baccalaureate (IB) pathway runs as a school-within-a-school at Talley Middle (grades 6–8) and Mount Pleasant High (grades 9–12). Prospective students apply through Delaware School Choice and submit supplemental school requirements; fifth graders apply for entry into Talley Middle, while incoming high schoolers submit applications during eighth grade.
