Christina School District
Christina School District guides students through middle school starting in sixth grade and high school in ninth, while The Bayard School and Maurice Pritchett Sr. Academy offer continuous grades 1–8 learning environments. Families planning to apply for an out-of-boundary campus through Delaware School Choice must first complete registration at their assigned neighborhood feeder school.
A comprehensive Mandarin immersion pathway begins at Downes Elementary (K–5) and extends through Shue-Medill Middle (6–8) to Newark High (9–12). Downes immersion students spend half of each instructional day learning in Mandarin. Kindergarten serves as the primary entry point; applicants entering grades 1–5 must demonstrate prior Mandarin proficiency and are admitted based on seat availability. All prospective Downes immersion students submit both Choice and CHIP applications.
At Christiana High School, the Middle School Honors Academy serves high-achieving students in grades 6–8. Admission requires completing both the standard Choice and academy applications, submitting two teacher recommendations, providing a student introduction video, and attending an in-person performance evaluation.
